节目中播放的朗读片段

1. Frank Muller朗读的“Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank redemption”片段:

It was on a Sunday that Andy first came to me. I knew who he was, of course; he had a reputation for being a snob and a cold fish. People were saying he was marked for trouble already.

“Hello,” he said, “I’m Andy Dufresne.”

He offered his hand and I shook it. He wasn’t a man to waste time being social; he got right to point.

“I understand that you’re a man who knows how to get things.”

I agreed that I was able to locate certain items from time to time.

“How do you do that?” Andy asked.

“Sometimes,” I said, “things just seem to come into my hand. I can’t explain it. Unless it’s because I’m Irish.”

2. Jeremy Irons朗读的“Lolita”片段

Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta.

She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock. She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita.

4 Juliet Stevenson朗读的“Sense and sensibility“片段:

“He is as good a sort of fellow, I believe, as ever lived,” repeated Sir John. “I remember last Christmas at a little hop at the park, he danced from eight o’clock till four, without one sitting down.”

“Did he indeed?” cried Marianne with sparkling eyes, “And with elegance, with spirit?”

“Yes, and he was up again at eight to ride to covert.”

“That is what I like; that is what a young man ought to be. Whatever be his pursuits, his eagerness in them should know no moderation, and leave him no sense of fatigue.”

5. Emilia Fox朗读的“Pride and prejudice”片段

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.

However little known the feelings or views of such a man may be on his first entering a neighbourhood, this truth is so well fixed in the minds of the surrounding families, that he is considered as the rightful property of some one of other of their daughters.

“My dear Mr. Bennet,” said his lady to him one day, “have you heard that Netherfield Park is let at last?”

Mr. Bennet replied that he had not.

“But it is,” returned she, “for Mrs. Long has just been here, and she told me all about it.”

Mr. Bennet made no answer.

“Do not you want to know who has taken it?” cried his wife impatiently.

“You want to tell me, and I have no objection to hearing it.”

“How to say” is how to say it wrong.

Since I teach English every day, I probably hear “how to” used wrong at least a dozen times. The most common questions I hear are: “How to say?” “How to spell?” “How to speak?” and “How to read?”

Since teachers or native speakers understand what it means though, they usually do not bother to correct it when they hear it used wrong. And then, since everyone is saying “how to” now, many students just learn it wrong.

A simple fix(如何改正):

The problem is that “How to ___” is missing a subject. Like 99.9% of English sentences, you must have a subject. Most of the time, you are asking someone, maybe a teacher, so the subject will be “you.” Let’s add “you” to “How to ___” “How to you ____.” But wait, that’s not right either. 那我们加个“you”进去看看:“How to you ____.” 诶?这样好像也不对。

We don’t need a “to” here. We never needed it! Where did it come from? Throw it away! Instead, let’s just use a simple auxiliary verb “do.” So now, we have “How do you ____?”我们这里并不用加“to”的,我们根本就不需要它,从哪跑出来的啊?仍掉它!取而代之地,我们应该放一个简单的助动词 -- “do”。那么现在,我们就有了: “How do you ____?”

That’s it. Nice, sweet, simple. 就是这样,很好,很棒,就那么简单~

Examples(例句)

How do you spell Mississippi?

How do you pronounce Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious?

How do you celebrate Labor Day in America?

Lastly, “How to” is often used as a title, heading, or a topic when it is about teaching people something: like a class called “How to read faster” or an article titled “How to lose weight” or a blog post called “How to speak like an American.”

I hope after reading this, you understand how to ask these questions properly now.

She had a strong will and power of rapid decision. The creative power of the masses knows no limits. Their power extends beyond the seas. To create your own spirituality.
